Radio Warrington Help

Your technical questions answered

I have tried to listen to Radio Warrington by clicking on Listen Live but it will not work.

(just goes to itunes or another player)

Another program is probably set to grab any audio files.

Try directing Radio Warrington to Windows Media Player by right clicking on the player of your choice (ie windows Media Player) > save target as > and then Save on your desktop.

This will create a little shortcut icon on your desktop.

Right click on that icon > open with > and select Windows Media Player.

You can also check the box that says "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file"

This should sort out the problem.

It might be that your computer is set with an internet Firewall which is set to block mp3 streams.

My desktop shortcut icon no longer works

From time to time Radio Warrington's IP address gets changed. This will only affect listeners who have created desktop icons as described in the previous question. To rectify this, delete the icon and then re-create a new one as described in the previous question.

Why do you have a low quality stream option?

We like to stream Radio Warrington in high quality. However, some people have a slower or restricted broadband connection so we set-up this option for them. It is also an independent back-up stream in the unlikely event that our main server fails due to circumstances beyond our control.

How can I listen to Radio Warrington on my radio?

In the future we hope to be allowed to broadcast on FM. Until then we can only be received via the internet on www.radiowarrington.co.uk. However, a little battery operated FM transmitter is available from various places including ourselves, which plugs into the headphone or loudspeaker socket on your computer. It transmits a very low power FM signal that can be received on any radio in the home or workplace. We sell them for £4.99 (See FM Sender in the Technical Help section)

Would I have to unplug my computer loudspeakers to plug in the FM sender?

If you only have one audio output socket then you would need a little mini-jack splitter which we can supply or they available from electrical shops such as Maplin.

Do I need a power supply for my FM sender?

They run on 2 x AAA batteries but you would need to remember to switch it off after use. If you get a 12v power supply unit then you would not need to replace the batteries. We can supply them or they are available from electrical shops such as Maplin.

I have set my FM transmitter and my FM radio to a frequency but it is not very clear

Try tuning your radio a little to the side of the labeled frequency to improve reception.

I have lost my sound from Radio Warrington

As anyone who uses computers will know, computer components can be very temperamental. If your stream from Radio Warrington fails there are many different reasons and actions that you can take. It is usually a buffering issue. Firstly, try re-establishing your link with your preferred player. Failing that, restart your computer, router and modem. Interruptions can be caused by running other programs on your computer at the same time. Internet links can also suffer at busy times of the day.
