World Mental Health Day – Local groups asked to get involved Warrington will mark World Mental Health Day by hosting a series of coffee mornings throughout the month of October. A cup of tea or coffee and a chat with a friend can be very beneficial for a person’s health and wellbeing. NHS Warrington is inviting community groups to show their support for the day by organising a coffee morning themed around the ‘Five Ways to Wellbeing’. The ‘Five Ways to Wellbeing’ are simple everyday actions we can all do to feel better about ourselves. They encourage us connect with one another, become more active, take notice of what is around us, give up some of our time for others and to learn new things. The Primary Care Trust will provide a free resource pack containing campaign materials for interested groups and will also help local groups to organise their events. World Mental Health Day raises public awareness about mental health issues by promoting more open discussions around mental health. The coffee mornings will be an opportunity for local people to find out more about the support available in Warrington and to learn more about how to take part in free physical activities. The PCT is also keen to hear from community groups who may have already planned a community event for October, as these will also be invited to adopt the ‘Five Ways to Wellbeing’ Warrington groups interested in hosting a wellbeing coffee morning can contact Caroline Jenkins for more information on 01925 406 071 or caroline.jenkins@warrington– Connect: Make time for the people around you, such as family, friends and neighbours. Be Active: Go for a walk, cycle do some gardening or maybe even have a dance! Being more active can make you feel good. Take Notice: Become more aware of the world around you, notice the changing seasons and the differences they bring. Take time to identify and appreciate what’s important to you. Keep Learning: Learning new things can make you feel more confident as well as being fun. Try something new, such as learning how to cook your favourite food. Give: Do something nice for a friend, or a stranger. Volunteer your time, or offer to help out at a local community group.

Better health services for patients with learning disabilities
Plans to improve specialist services for people with learning disabilities have been announced by the NHS in Knowsley, Halton, St Helens and Warrington. The Primary Care Trusts are working with 5 Boroughs Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, to create a more effective community based support service for patients with learning disabilities. A new model of care will see faster access to specialist health professionals and increased support outside of traditional working hours. The proposed changes to community health services will reduce the numbers of people admitted to hospital and increase support for families, carers and front line staff. Improving the quality of care for patients with learning disabilities has been made possible by the expansion of local community-based mental health services, across the four boroughs, in recent years. Now further developments will ensure that better services are available locally, keeping the people that need them cared for in the community and closer to their friends and family. The proposals will also recommend the transfer of inpatient services for residents of Knowsley, Halton, St Helens and Warrington to the Byron Unit in Hollins Park, Warrington and that Willis House in Whiston is used for the delivery of community health services. The range of support available from specialist community teams has led to a decline in the use inpatient beds. Movement of these services to one site will ensure that patients in Knowsley, Halton, St Helens and Warrington, will have equal access to the best clinical and person centred environment to aid their recovery. Janice Wycherley, Specialist Care Commissioner for Warrington said "We have undertaken a significant amount of work to improve the quality and scope of Learning Disability Services across Knowsley, Halton, St Helens and Warrington. Now we want to talk to local people to give them an opportunity to let us know what is important to them, so we can ensure that this new model of care will fully meet their needs". NHS Knowsley, Halton and St Helens and Warrington PCTs will be meeting with key stakeholders and patient groups to talk about the changes to local services and listen to what people have to say about the proposals. To find out about meetings taking place near you please contact 01925 815586 The information and views gathered at these meetings will be considered by the three Primary Care Trustsarrington Borough Council is seeking expressions of interest from
